About this coffee
How we are using this coffee:
This single producer lot is highlighting a unique region of Peru – the Alto Mayo Protected Rainforest. Just northeast of Cajamarca in the Amazonas region, this protected rainforest hosts the cooperative Coopbam where many of their members are growing superb coffee.
At Mill City we go through a lot of Peru – especially regional blend lots. Coffees like this we roast light-medium. Pushing into a medium roast may showcase tame acidity, bigger body, and deep sweetness.
Origin and/or producer information:
Edwar Guivin Fernandez is part of the group Coopbam which was organized in 2014 by Conservation International as part of the Alto Mayo Conservation Initiative. Coopbam is not only special for the coffee they produce but the way they produce it: as a true community organization devoted to support and conservation of the local ecosystem and the humans within it.
Since its founding, Coopbam helped create a lot of job opportunities, not just through coffee production but also through reforestation programs. Coopbam has also created 4 women’s committees to represent women’s equity on a local level, targeting access to education and healthcare. They delivered cooking stoves to their member households, launched medical campaigns and installed solar panels. They produce delicious coffee, but that’s far from the limit to their work.
