The M-Series: Built for the Future of Roasting

The M-Series line-up is designed from the ground up to be truly automation-ready, encompassing three core models: the 6kg, 10kg, and 20kg capacities. Each roaster in the series is a testament to our philosophy that the equipment must match the dedication of the craft coffee it produces.
Key engineering and design features that set the M-Series apart include:
-
Heritage Monolithic Chassis: A fully insulated, monolithic plate steel chassis provides unparalleled structural integrity and thermal stability, ensuring consistent and repeatable results roast after roast.

-
Custom-Engineered Burner Sets: The roasters are equipped with highly durable, custom-engineered stainless steel burner sets, delivering precise heat application and exceptional longevity.

-
Acoustic-Optimized Exhaust: Custom-run silent exhaust fans drastically reduce ambient noise in the roasting environment without compromising airflow or cooling efficiency.

-
Advanced Drum Technology: Featuring shaftless, double-walled drums, the M-Series offers superior heat transfer control and maximum thermal mass for optimal bean agitation and consistent roasting profiles.

-
Next-Generation HMI: The new RoastPATH touchscreen Human-Machine Interface (HMI) integrates seamlessly with the roasting process. This advanced control system includes a custom-built and programmed haptic feedback jog wheel, offering roasters an intuitive, tactile, and highly precise method of control over critical parameters.

Engineered for Lifelong Production and Remote Management

Mill City has engineered the M-Series roasters for a lifetime of rigorous commercial production. We understand that in a rapidly evolving industry, future-proofing is paramount. To this end, M-Series roasters support remote firmware upgradable feature sets, allowing for the addition of new capabilities and performance enhancements without needing physical modifications. Furthermore, a comprehensive remote diagnostics suite is included, enabling proactive maintenance scheduling and expert external troubleshooting, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
The Return to American Precision Manufacturing

The launch of the M-Series marks the successful realization of Mill City’s decision to return its core manufacturing operations to the United States. This significant undertaking necessitated a substantial investment in heavy machinery, specialized tooling, and the cultivation of highly specialized expertise.
Our entire manufacturing ecosystem is now housed within a state-of-the-art, solar-powered 40,000 sq ft facility, a space that Mill City has been systematically developing in Northeast Minneapolis for more than five years. The commitment to internal fabrication is total: every one of the over 400 unique components required for the M-Series roasters is fabricated within this facility.
This level of vertical integration allows for absolute control over quality and precision:

-
In-House Design and Engineering: All engineering and design work is meticulously executed in-house by our expert team using industry-leading Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360 platforms.
-
Laser Cutting and Welding: Plate steel and sheet metal components are prepared with sub-millimeter precision using a fully enclosed 6000-watt fiber laser. Joining is accomplished with advanced 2000-watt laser welding systems, ensuring structurally perfect and visually flawless seams.

-
Forming and Shaping: Drums, chaff collector bodies, and hoppers achieve their precise geometry using two heavy hydraulic plate rollers. Sheet metal is shaped with proprietary 3-D printed custom tooling on a powerful 150-ton 5-axis Amada press brake.

-
CNC Machining: Critical machined parts are produced on our high-precision equipment, including 4-axis 40 taper Haas and 50 taper Milltronics CNC mills. Turned parts, such as shafts and fittings, are manufactured on a Haas ST-20 CNC turning center.

If your coffee is a labor of love, your roaster should reflect an equivalent commitment to excellence and craftsmanship.
The Initial Phase of a Long-Term Vision
It is obvious to even the most casual of observers that we possess a deep, dual expertise in the intricacies of specialty coffee and the demands of precision manufacturing. The M-Series roasters are our best work to date. They stand as the most refined, highest-performing, and most sophisticated precision roasting system we can build, but they are only the beginning. We're really just getting warmed up.
