Some people work with us to get help building a new profile for a green coffee they've purchased. In many cases, this is a green coffee that a customer has a personal connection to, but they might not have the time or the skill set to create an ideal roast profile, so they bring it to us.
We start by talking with them about what they want to achieve with their coffees, what they want the flavor profile to be like, or who the intended audience is. This helps us set some goals. Then we do a sample roast and evaluation to learn what the primary flavors of the coffee are. Using what we learned from the cupping and the goals of the customer, we can get to work roasting the coffee many different ways and narrow down a few profiles that we think are the best options.
Customers are always invited to be part of the process. We discuss each roast in detail, sharing how the profile was designed and what our tasting notes are. We look for feedback on which profile is most appealing to them, and we leave room in the timeline for re-roasts and revisions.
After selecting a finished profile, we can work with them to decide on the strongest descriptors for retail packaging and website descriptions. At that point, the profile belongs to the customer. We can either help them replicate it on their own roaster, or they can have us roast that coffee for them as part of our toll roasting program. This service allows customers to take advantage of the years of roasting experience and coffee knowledge we have while seeing their vision come to life for a unique green coffee.
