PRODUCTIVE CAPACITY

THE MCR-3 CREATES $507 PER HOUR

Roasting 4 full batches an hour on an MCR-3 creates over 21 pounds of roasted coffee every hour. This yield is enough roasted coffee to fill more than 28 12-ounce bags. With a retail value of $18 per 12-ounce bag, you can create $507 of retail coffee per hour.

Features

Precision Variable Control

Mill City Roasters was the first in the industry to offer as a standard feature variable fuel, fan, and drum control (we couldn't believe it either) but we've taken it a step further by refining that control for the operator.

Rapid Return Between Batch Protocol

Consistency in your roasting can only be achieved with stability in your roasting machinery. Automatic between batch protocol is standard on all MCR coffee roasters from the MCR-1 and up.

Certifications

Certified machinery is more easily insurable, installable and our coffee roasters are backed by an experienced team to help advocate on your behalf with installers, contractors and permitting officials.

This was my first commercial roaster that I bought and I love it. I did a lot of research when trying to decide what roaster to buy and I am so glad I found Mill City. The roaster is a solid built machine and has been built by people who actually roast coffee and it shows.
The best thing about Mill City Roasters is the customer service. I would encourage anyone who is wondering if they should make the "jump" to call MCR and ask them any questions you might have. I decided to take the beginners roasting class at their facility and I could tell right away that the Mill City crew genuinely wanted to help me succeed, it was a great feeling.

So far I have not observed anything on the machine that I would consider a con. It is a pretty straight forward machine. I would suggest that you plan ahead if you our planning to purchase one because the delivery lead time can be awhile but I think that is expected with any major equipment purchases.

Overall I love it and I can't wait to start making some coffee

This roaster is awesome! I graduated from a home roasting setup to this bad boy and have LOVED it. I got bit by the bug and since buying this thing have attended several training event at different places around the country and am in the process of getting my roaster level 1 certificate through the SCAA/Roasters Guild. As a result of that I have had the pleasure of getting to play on a lot of different small to medium sized machines. I haven't met any roaster around this capacity that I think I would enjoy more than the North. When I talked with Dave before my purchase he assured me that these roasters are overbuilt. I wholeheartedly agree. This thing has so much residual heat once it get warmed up that it took a lot of getting used to. I had to put A LOT of green though this machine at full capacity to even begin to feel comfortable with the machine itself let alone scaling it down to lower capacity charges. I can now very comfortably roast at 50% capacity on this guy but because of how well it is built, that is as small as you are going to get a batch to with consistent results. The roaster is very versatile and allows you to control every variable so well. I have enjoyed it so much that I have a North 500g Sample roaster headed my way shortly to do profiling on. The North machines are hands down the best bang for the buck out there! Not to mention the fact that the whole crew at Mill City are as good as they come. I got to know them pretty well through phone calls and emails wait on my roaster to arrive. I also had the privilege of going to scope out their facility and meet the crew when I was in Minneapolis for a training. These people are top notch and take VERY good care of their customers. Tune into the Coffee of The Month streams. You will learn a ton. Thanks Mill City!

I also agree with Ryan in his review below about the height of the roaster. My solution was the below 12 quart container. Food grade plastic and a perfect fit.

Having the roaster on heavy duty casters is worth the strange height in my book. The thing weighs about 700lbs.

This roaster is so solid and beautiful. Everyone who visits wants to spend time admiring the roaster. The photos on the site are slightly outdated, but rest assured that any modifications that have been made since these photos were taken are upgrades and improvements. This is one solid piece of equipment, over built in every way.

What I found most unbelievable about my purchase was the thoughtfulness of Mill City when it comes to what is provided with the roaster. I was sure I would have to visit the hardware store before being able to roast my first batch--but I was mistaken. They thought of everything--from a gas leak finding solution to 4" hose clamps.

I would offer one criticism of the 3KG floor model and that is the slightly awkward height. You would think that sitting while roasting would be nice, but I don't love it. Also, the chute coming off the cooling tray is only 8" off the ground and I had to buy special containers big enough to receive 5-6 lbs of coffee and short enough to fit under the chute. Other than this minor inconvenience, this thing is as close to perfect as I could ask for.

Customer Service is top notch.
