specialty coffee in Minneapolis & Saint Paul
An roaster's guide of coffees to try and shops to see during your stay in our twin cities.
Plus lodging recommendations for our Roasting 101 guests.
Dogwood coffee
Stop into their Northeast location for a smart example of a large specialty coffee roastery and cafe space under the same roof. Strong branding and clever bag design make this a favorite of our Design Team. Charming coffee blends and top-notch pastries make this a favorite of everyone.
Backstory Coffee Roasters
With the recent opening of their impressive North Loop shop, Backstory Coffee is enjoying the social spotlight and rightfully so. But our favorite Backstory space is the neighborhood spot on Wabasha which houses their roastery, a small tasting room and a busy sidewalk coffee window. Visit them both!
Wesley Andrews
This bright, young shop is a main stay in the Whittier neighborhood. What started with a love for hot drinks during the cold of winter has turned into a real community of neighbors.
Café Cerés
There's a lot to love about the downtown location - the building, the pastry program, the people watching - but we go back again and again because they serve Silverbird Coffee. Enjoy some drip coffee at the bar in the front window and take a bag of whole bean to go.

Downtown Minneapolis
If an urban but low key stay is your vibe, the Aloft Hotel in Downtown East is a great choice. In the evenings you can walk along the river and across the Stone Arch Bridge before your dinner reservation at Owamni or Spoon & Stable. Grab last minute tickets to a show at the Guthrie Theatre which is just around the corner. In the morning, you cannot skip Silver Bird coffee at Café Cerés down the street before using rideshare to make the 10 minute drive to our location across the river.
Roseville
If the suburbs are more your speed, Roseville is a friendly first-ring suburb and the new Courtyard Marriot is just 10 minutes from our location. Stop into Pagoda or India Palace for dinner and find great shopping at Rosedale Mall. Need more options? Hop over the northeast Minneapolis for dinner at Young Joni or great coffee at Corner Coffee or Dogwood's impressive Northeast Location.
