Artisan is a free to use, open-source roast data logging software with a large amount of features and supporting a wide range of devices. Created and maintained largely by Marko Luther, Artisan’s open-source nature has allowed programmers in the roasting community to add more devices as needed. From plug-and-play USB components to wireless Modbus TCP/IP connections, your roaster manufacturer has probably worked with Marko to make sure their machine is compatible with Artisan. Data Logging Hardware Options

Phidgets are building-block tools for sensing and control from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. In coffee roasting, the most commonly used thermocouple to usb interface is the Phidget 1048 4-channel thermocouple device.

Modbus is an industrial communication and control protocol device developed in 1979. Used in a variety of industries and applications, Modbus is as versatile as it is reliable. Modbus communication on roasters is used by select manufacturers based on their data collection and control needs.
