Variable Exhaust and Cooling Airflow
Separate exhaust and cooling fans mean complete control during continuous roasting…
Commercial drum roasting is all about the air flow. Most commercial drum roasters pull air through the rear of the drum conveying up to 80% of the heat necessary to roast coffee. In the old days, coffee roasters had a single fixed speed fan and a manual damper to shunt air between the drum and the cooling tray.
To this day, many roasters feature mechanical air control where mechanical detents are the only way to tell how much air is passing through the drum. All of our roasters feature electronic variable speed exhaust fans and separate cooling fans. The separate cooling fan means faster cooling and better coffee with the added benefit of not having to listen to a fan howling at full speed every minute you’re standing next to the roaster.
Heavy Duty Construction
Solid plate and all stainless steel construction
“Budget” roasters are universally built with light sheet metal and hollow tubing. For thermal stability, top tier professional equipment is typically cast iron and/or plate steel construction. Once heated, higher quality machines require only small airflow and burner adjustments to control the roast. This makes back to back continuous production roasting much easier and much more consistent.
Our roasters feature solid welded plate steel construction, an insulated drum chamber, and massively heavy solid stainless steel mill work. The commercial quality drum bearings, variable speed motor, speed reducer and drive train are all tightly toleranced to ensure smooth operation. All of this has the added benefit of making the roaster whisper quiet. You’ll be able to clearly hear the start of both first and second crack and be able drop the roast or make adjustments to your profile immediately.
Integrated USB Data Logging
Eliminating the mystery of the roast.
Our experience in business and engineering has taught us that if it matters, you measure it. It’s also pretty hard to hit a target that you can’t see. All of our roasters ship with a sophisticated factory installed 4 or 5 point thermometry package including “at a glance” analog and digital monitoring of drum and exhaust temperatures. Equally impressive is our comprehensive real-time process monitoring package that allows the display and logging of heat energy into the drum, into the bean, and out of the system.
Our “plug and play” USB interface allows this data is then recorded, displayed, and saved on either a Windows, Linux, or Apple computer allowing the roastmaster to see the progression of the roast and adjust accordingly. Learn more about coffee roaster data logging here.
